Hearing the Queen of Manett say that Adyson’s father couldn’t possibly have been Jerome makes me rest a little easier, especially because I could feel the sincerity in her words. It made me want to give the guy a second chance maybe, even though he was a bit older than us. Seemed like a good investment for the heirs of neighboring countries to be friendly. I think Isla had the right idea there.

Leah meets us in the atrium, looking almost exactly the same as I remember. Dull blonde hair, short stature, but eyes that looked ready to tell stories. She looked between us, looking a little nervous, until her eyes met Isla’s and she seemed to relax a little. Something in her countenance made me feel like she wasn’t comfortable around men for some reason.

Leah approaches Isla and dips into a curtsey.

“I am so pleased you decided to come visit, there’s not a lot of women in our circles I feel I can connect with. Not to be too forward, but I’m looking forward to understanding who you are.”

Isla giggles at Leah’s strange, formal words and curtseys back.

“You can say it. We’re obviously going to be friends. And samesies, on the woman thing. Sometimes I feel like there’s a bit too much testosterone around, you know?”

She shoots us all a flirty wink to appease us, and to show us she’s only joking. Leah looks full of curiosity at Isla’s blatant flirting with all of us.

You want us with you, babe? Or would you prefer some girl time?

Are you comfortable with leaving me with her? You don’t think there’s any threats here, do you?

Her family is good people. Plus the Essence likes you, remember? You can’t shift, but now that we know more about your history, I bet you could learn to use magic a little bit.

SERIOUSLY??

Her mental shout of excitement had me laughing so I had to pull in my brothers to explain to them what was going on.

Maalik: He’s right babe. I bet Leah could show you a few things. She doesn’t seem to comfortable around us anyway. You want us to go settle into our room while you walk for a bit?

Isla: If you’re all really okay with it. My dragon seems a little nervous though, maybe one of you could stay with me? Just to keep her from making me crazy? And, you know, eye candy.

I snort, obviously doing a piss poor job of presenting myself in a princely manner.

“You mind if my brothers go unpack while I join you ladies?”

I direct my question at Leah to make sure she’s okay with the plan. We are in her home, after all. She seems a little relieved that not all my brothers will be joining us, and quickly leads us through the halls.
